Welcome to the pack.

Stray Dogs exists to uplift and support individuals and athletes at all levels, because the core of progress and performance is always the same: consistency & care.

Stray Dogs Performance was started in 2024 by Matt Carter, the result of a decades long love affair with exercise science. While working a career in fundraising and finance in DC he balanced his office life with his training life, completing 9 ultramarathons in 5 years amongst other races and mountain pursuits. During that time he began to seek out more and more knowledge to support his own training, eventually obtaining a Masters in Exercise Science from George Washington University. While at George Washington he had the opportunity to be a member of the strength & conditioning team for their D1 NCAA athletes, specifically focusing on their women’s rowing team, cross country, track, & sprint athletes, and golf team. Alongside his work at GWU, Matt wrote physiology and exercise science articles for Uphill Athlete, the premier mountain training group. By blending his less traditional background in sports and fitness with a formal education and NCAA experience, Matt has been able to develop approaches and training philosophies that work for all types of people and athletes.

Stray Dogs was founded on the principle that everyone is unique, and goals and dreams are achieved when all aspects of a persons life are combined with their athletic and fitness goals.

We strive to provide a framework for you to grow, and take an holistic approach to your development that takes into account all aspects of your life.
